I worked in the City for over 20 years in M&A, equity research and fund management, with the last 13 years spent at Jupiter running a UK equity fund that peaked at £2bn. During that time, I worked with and got to know hundreds of CEOs, CFOs, Chairmen and board directors of a wide variety of publicly listed companies.
In 2016, I saw my track record as a fund manager go from best-in-class to worst in the space of a few days following the EU referendum.
A few months later, I had a serious, freakish health scare: cerebrospinal fluid was leaking out of my spine and causing bleeding in my brain. To ease the pain in my head, I had to spend almost three months lying in bed and having various unpleasant procedures before it was finally resolved.
I had always been very health-conscious but those two episodes spurred me on to explore all possible avenues for optimising my wellbeing and enhancing my resilience at work and outside. This was crucial to dealing effectively with highly volatile markets, unhappy clients and internal challenges in the period after 2016.
I have studied, tested and experimented in all the fields that I cover in this coaching programme and have built a network of experts in fields such as nutrition, PT, physiotherapy, pilates & mobility, meditation, chess and a number of sports. I am a patron of Team GB and the Chance 2 Shine cricket charity and was previously a sponsor of the England chess team, giving me additional insights into how these sports prepare & support their athletes.
I left Jupiter in 2020 to develop this programme. I also continue to work with a number of the quoted companies that I used to be involved with as a fund manager & invest in a wide range of public and private companies.
In 2021, I launched the "Tough At The Top" podcast series talking to CEOs and business leaders about what makes them tick, who inspired them, what mistakes they made on their way up and the lessons they have learned.
I have qualified as a Sleep & Recovery Specialist and now offer dedicated 1-to-1 Sleep Coaching and a corporate seminar on "How To Sleep Well" alongside my full Performance Coaching sessions.
I have been married for over 15 years (my wife Caroline is a qualified nutritional therapist and personal trainer) and have three boys aged 15,13 and 10, so I know all about the challenges of combining family life with a stressful and time-consuming professional role.
